The Shakespeare garden

THE SHAKESPEARE GARDEN, DAVENPORT PARK

Designed and planted by the Avon Bard Society in 1937, and then transferred to the Garden Club of New Rochelle in 1982, The Shakespeare Garden was restored in 2004. Two years later the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State awarded our Shakespeare Garden First Place for Historic Preservation.

In 2010, the Club in collaboration with the Parks Department and The New Rochelle Council of the Arts invited the public to “Shakespeare at Dusk”,

a presentation of Shakespearean music and song.

The following year in 2011, “May Day in the Shakespeare Garden” celebrated the delights of spring with a picnic lunch, dancing around the Maypole, and a presentation of the arts of Falconry.

The Shakespeare Garden is maintained with the help of a generous grant from the Gwen Appleyard New Rochelle Charities fund.
